INPI started on January 1, 2021, phase II of the pilot project Patent Prosecution Highway – PPH, one of the priority procedures offered by the Institute.
Phase I of the project was completed in December 2021 with the annual limit of 400 applications reached.
The start of phase II of the PPH was scheduled for 12/1/22, however, due to the success of the Backlog Combat Plan, it was anticipated.
In this type of priority procedure, after the matter of a patent application is considered patentable by one of the partner patent institutes, it is possible to prioritize the examination of the patent application for the same invention and holder at the INPI.
The PPH also assists depositors in their efforts to obtain a patent, since information related to research or examination of the first examination offices is used and assists in the analysis of the application by the main patent offices in the world that participate in the PPH .
This phase of the project has some differences in relation to phase I, such as, for example, the number of processes accepted annually, which went from 400 to 600 processes.
It is worth mentioning that, in order for the patent application to fit into this type of priority procedure, it must meet some requirements that are available for consultation on the official INPI page, where it is also possible to learn more about the project and other types of priority examination.
